Scaling up solar-based mini-grids in conflict affected communities

By Nuru SARL

Nuru is working to provide 5 million delighted clients with world-class connectivity by September 24, 2024. This Humanitarian Grand Challenge innovation will deploy a 3.7MW hybrid minigrid site expansion, serving three neighborhoods in Goma: Ndosho, Mugunga and Lac Vert. Reporting no more than 5% energy access, this site aims to provide critical energy infrastructure to improve the lives of the 125,000 beneficiaries residing in this conflict-affected region of the Congo.

Nuru’s solar-based minirgrid will serve these at-risk communities as the foundation for market-creating innovations that result in: greater wealth, job creation and growth in the specific market and throughout the value network, public streetlights and enhanced security, and cultural change that cultivates an environment in which strong, accountable, and transparent institutions can develop.
