Scaling telemedicine access for conflict-affected communities in southern Libya
THE CHALLENGE
Libya’s healthcare system is in crisis, with half the population lacking access to services, severe staff shortages, and only a fraction of hospitals offering essential care. Insecurity and underinvestment exacerbate inequalities, especially for women and marginalized communities who face barriers such as required documentation and male accompaniment to receive care.
THE SOLUTION
Speetar is a telehealth platform that provides affordable, culturally attuned healthcare through a mobile and web app developed by local medical professionals. Designed for patients with low literacy or financial constraints, Speetar reduces epidemic risk, removes the need for unsafe travel, lowers costs, and expands healthcare access by connecting with diaspora health workers. With centralized health data and inclusive access, Speetar offers a lifeline for vulnerable populations, addressing Libya’s health inequities and supporting sustainable care in conflict-affected areas.
